We are the Stollery Children’s Hospital Pediatric GI STAR team!

We are a group of pediatric gastroenterologists at Edmonton’s Stollery Children’s Hospital with a special interest in providing education to health care providers on common pediatric gastrointestinal conditions. Functional gastrointestinal disorders, now also known as disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) are common worldwide.

We often see pediatric patients with DGBI in our clinics and recognize the significant impact of these disorders on children’s lives. Many patients visit multiple health care providers without a diagnosis and undergo numerous unnecessary investigations. Many DGBI diagnoses do not require a pediatric GI specialist or endoscopy. The initial work-up and management of common DGBI can be completed by a primary care provider or pediatrician in the community.

We aim to disseminate knowledge on common pediatric GI disorders to frontline health care providers so children with these conditions receive timely diagnosis and care within their own communities.
